The basic UGC NET 2025 eligibility criteria for the candidates who want to apply for the UGC NET exam are to have completed their master's degree or an equivalent, with a minimum aggregate of 55%. Earlier, the upper age limit for applying for UGC NET JRF was 31 years. It has been reduced by one year, i.e., up to 30 years, as of Jun 1, 2025, for the candidates who belong to the General category.

UGC NET Educational Qualification 2025
The educational qualification for UGC NET 2025 is as follows.
- Candidates must have obtained at least 55% marks in their post-graduation or equivalent from a recognised university.
- Students who are in their final year are eligible to appear in the exam.
- Candidates who hold Ph.D. degrees and whose post-graduation was completed before the exam date are provided with a relaxation of 5% in the minimum marks.
